Upson County was created on December 15, 1824, by the Georgia General Assembly. Located near the center of Georgia, Upson County was made from portions of Pike and Crawford counties. The county was named for a Georgia lawyer and legislature named Stephen Upson. Upson County has a small town feel but is in proximity to Atlanta and Augusta.
