Made from portions of Macon, Marion, and Talbot counties, Taylor County was officially created by the Georgia General Assembly on January 15, 1852. Taylor County was the 98th county created in Georgia. Named for 12th President of the United States, Zachary Taylor, Taylor County has a surface area of 380 square miles. Taylor County High School holds the nation’s record for most consecutive girl’s high school basketball games won, winning 132 consecutive games. The Recreation Department also offers t-ball, football, cheerleading, and basketball teams.
