About San Mateo County
Established in 1856 as a response to growing lawlessness and vigilantism that plagued the area in 1855. San Mateo County was created from a division of the San Francisco County which drew a line across the southern part of the city of San Francisco.
Today, San Mateo County is one of the nine counties which border the San Francisco Bay Area. In addition, the county also covers most parts of the Peninsula of San Francisco while also being home to Silicon Valley at its southernmost point. However, the county still maintains a laid rural backdrop even with its many thriving corporate firms.
Living in San Mateo offers residents an urban-suburban mix feel, with most residents being homeowners. In addition, the county is also home to several restaurants, coffee shops, and parks for residents and visitors to enjoy.
Central Park is the main park in San Mateo providing most of the community park functions that serve downtown residents. Moreover, the park has a Japanese tea garden and a rose garden. Beresford Park is a large park in San Mateo which offers bocce ball and a skating plaza.
Most people do not associate suburbs with a vast number of outdoor activities, but, when visiting San Mateo, one must get ready to venture beyond the downtown shops, hotels, and restaurants. There are many things to do outside that will keep you entertained throughout.
