Named after the county of Rutland in England, Rutland County is located along the eastern side of Vermont. Rutland County was created out of portions of Bennington County in the early 1780s. The two nationally protected areas in Rutland County are the Green Mountain National Forest and the White Rocks National Recreation Area. The county seat of Rutland, VT is the third largest city in Vermont. Rutland County is the perfect mix of nature and city.
