There are a multitude of interesting historical landmarks and structures in Pottawattamie County. The Chieftain Hotel was built in 1927 and was located in the county seat of Council Bluff. The Hotel once had 153 rooms and also featured a few restaurants. Another beautiful historical site is the Grenville M. Dodge House, which was built in 1869. The Grenville M. Dodge House still stands in Council Bluff and is open for tours. Other historical sites in Pottawattamie County include the Eckle Round Barn and the Ruth Anne Dodge Memorial.
