Formed from a portion of Camden County, Charlton County was officially created on Feb. 18, 1854. Charlton County, Georgia was named for a former U.S. senator named Robert Milledge Charlton. The county is home to several historical sites listed on the National Register of Historic Places. There are also several museums, parks, and entertainment areas located in Charlton County. The current population of Charlton County is 12,897 with a veteran population of 1,247.
