Boundary County is the northernmost county in Idaho and was officially created by the Idaho Legislature on January 23, 1915. Formed from portions of Bonner County, Boundary County got its name from the fact that it borders Canada. The county is home to several national protected areas, which makes it an amazing place to see the beautiful Idaho landscape. The total area of Boundary County is 1,278 square miles, 1,269 miles of which is water, and 9.3 miles of which is water. The total population of Boundary County is 10,979, including a veteran population of 1,263.
The Kootenai National Forest is one of the nationally protected areas in Boundary County. Breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains, forests, and bodies of water can all be seen in the Kootenai National Forest. There are numerous fishing opportunities in the Kootenai National Forest thanks to the many bodies of water, including the Kootenai and Clark Fork Rivers. The National Forest is also home to many mountain ranges, including the Whitefish, Purcell, Bitterroot, and Cabinet ranges.
Another great place to see in Boundary County is the Pacific Northwest Trail. The Trail is one of the most popular hiking trails in America. With beautiful views of the forests in Boundary County, the Pacific Northwest Trail is the perfect place to visit for nature lovers. The trail has portions for people of all hiking skill sets. Hikers from all over the country visit the Pacific Northwest Trail to see the amazing plant and animal life that make their home in the Pacific Northwest.
The thriving school system in Boundary County is made up of three elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. The main high school in Boundary County, Bonners Ferry High School, is the home of the “Badgers.” The Badgers host many sporting events during the year, which bring out much of the community.
