The Wildlife Refuge is made up of bulrush marsh, open water, flooded meadows, rushes, and grasslands. Moose, rabbits, many bird species, and much more can be found living in the Bear Lake National Wildlife Refuge. The Wildlife Refuge is surrounded by mountains, giving it amazing views of the landscape.
The Oregon Trail Bear Lake Scenic Byway is a popular destination for tourists in Bear Lake County. Along the trail, visitors can stop at several overlooks, monuments, and many other tourist destinations. Also along the Scenic Byway, are relaxing hot springs to stop and enjoy the healing waters. Other destinations worth seeing along the Oregon Trail Bear Lake Scenic Byway are the Minnetonka Caves, Oregon-California Trail Portal, and Georgetown Summit.
