Located in the center of Georgia, Twiggs County was named after American Revolutionary War General, John Twiggs. Twiggs County was created by the Georgia General Assembly on December 14, 1809. The county is made up of 363 square miles, 358 miles of which is land, and 4.2 miles of which is water. Home of both the Ocmulgee River basin and the Oconee River basin, Twiggs County has many opportunities for aquatic activities. The county has a strong education system and hospital system.
