Florida VA home loan limitsThe 2019 $0 down, VA home loan limit for Holmes County is $484,350.

Purchased in 1821 by the United States, Florida became a state in 1845. The Florida Territorial Council created Jackson County in 1822, 23 years prior to statehood. Named after Andrew Jackson, the seventh President of the United States, and the first military governor of the state, Jackson County originally extended from the Suwannee River to the Choctawhatchee River. The present-day boundaries were put in place in 1840 when the county area was tweaked to make way for the creation of new counties. Ironically, at the time of creation, no towns existed in Jackson County. Founded by Scotsman Robert Beveridge, the County Seat and largest city of Marianna was established in 1827. Controversial at the time, Webbville was the original county seat but was disbanded when Beveridge bribed the Florida Legislature with free land and the construction of a courthouse. Marianna’s place as the center of the county was further solidified by nineteenth-century railroad construction. An Official Main Street Town of Florida, Marianna has many attractions that pay tribute to its formational years. The downtown historical district has been restored to appear as it did years in the past, and the area has several antebellum homes. Marianna Landmarks include St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and Cemetery. The city was also the host of the civil war engagement The Battle of Marianna.

Today, Jackson County is home to 49,746 residents. Located on the top of the Florida Panhandle, the county covers 955 square miles; 37 square miles are water. The county is the only one in Florida that borders both Georgia and Alabama.
