Located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Towns County is one of the most scenic counties in Georgia. The Georgia General Assembly created the county on March 6, 1856. Named after United States politician, George W. Towns, Towns County is located on the northern edge of Georgia. The county encompasses 172 square miles, 167 miles of which is land, and 5.4 miles of which is water. The total population of Towns County is 11,098, including a veteran population of 1,303.
The Blue Ridge Mountains make Towns County one of the best places in Georgia for hiking. The many hiking and biking trails in the mountains provide some of the most beautiful views of Towns County. A popular spot in the mountains is Raven’s Creek, which is a majestic waterfall located along one of the hiking trails. There are hiking trails for people of all different skill sets in Towns County, including Miller Trek, AT Trail, and Jackrabbit Trail.
Theatre, arts, and culture are important to the citizens of Towns County. One place to see the work of talented artists and performers is the Peacock Performing Arts Center. Located just a short drive from the county, Peacock frequently showcases plays, musicians, dancers, and other types of performances.
