Telfair County is home to some of the most interesting history in Georgia. Archaeologists have found artifacts dating back to the 16th century in Telfair County. Named for 16th Governor of Georgia, Edward Telfair, the county is made up of 444 square miles. The county was officially created on December 10, 1807, by the Georgia General Assembly. Made from a portion of Wilkinson County, Telfair County hosts many events for its citizens throughout the year. The total population is 16,518, including a veteran population of 1,021.
