St. Lucie County, Florida VA Home Loan Info

Florida VA home loan limits2021 $0 down, VA home loan limit for St. Lucie County is $548,250.

Originally inhabited by the indigenous, hunter-gatherer Ais tribe, St. Lucie County is situated along what is known as the “Treasure Coast of Florida.” The coastal area was given this nickname as a result of the Spanish treasure fleet sinking in 1715 in the area. The county was initially settled by Europeans and Americans who took advantage of the Spanish Government issuing land grants that encouraged inhabitation of the county. The area was virtually uninhabited by the mid-nineteenth century, which brought about a wave of Seminoles and runaway slaves seeking refuge. Around this same time the United States Government began giving out land grants, bringing about conflict between Americans and Seminole Nation, with The Third Seminole War largely taking place within the modern boundaries of the county.

The county was officially formed in May of 1905, with the land area taken from Southern Brevard County. Port St. Lucie is the largest city in St. Lucie, and Fort Pierce is the county seat. Several points of interest are found throughout the county. Among these amenities is the St. Lucie Regional History Center, the St. Lucie County Aquarium, the Heathcote Botanical Gardens and the Navy UDT-Seal Museum. Interestingly, Fort Pierce was the original base and birthplace of the Naby Seals.
