Pierce County, Georgia was named after the fourteenth President of the United States, Franklin Pierce. Created from portions of Appling and Ware counties, Pierce County was officially created by the Georgia General Assembly on December 18, 1857. The total area of the county is 343 square miles, 315 square miles of which is land and 27 square miles of which is water. The plentiful water supply makes Pierce County an excellent place for aquatic activities. Currently, the total population is 18,991, including a veteran population of 1,398.

Pierce County is located in proximity to the Georgia coast, which makes it the perfect place to enjoy the beach, but avoid the year-long tourism. The Heritage Museum in Pierce County recounts the lives of early residents of Pierce County. Some of the exhibits include early agricultural tools, church histories, and Civil War information. There is also a large photograph and document collection located in the museum. A genealogical library includes the names of many of the early residents of Pierce County.
