Morgan County, Georgia was created by the Georgia State Legislature on December 10, 1807. The county was named for General Daniel Morgan. Morgan County is known for its rural landscape and Antebellum houses. The county seat of Madison was named for President James Madison. The county is full of history and has a multitude of opportunities for sports, hiking, swimming, and much more! Morgan County has a thriving educational system and many great parks. The arts and culture scene is strong in Morgan County. The Steffen Thomas Museum of Art was erected in 1995. The Hard Labor Creek State Park features hiking trails, horse riding trails, and even a golf course! The park is also home to a lakeside beach, where visitors can lay down a blanket and spend a nice day in the sun. There are over 24 miles of trails in Hard Labor Creek that provide excellent views of Morgan County. Over 30 horse stables are in the park where you can rent a horse for horseback riding. For those that love camping, there are over 46 campsites open to the public.
The Madison-Morgan Cultural Center is a great place to see a musical act, dance recital, or dramatic play. The Center’s beauty comes from the fact that it was restored from a Romanesque Revival building that was built in 1895. The theater in Madison-Morgan can seat over 397 people. Madison-Morgan also hosts various classes and events throughout the year.
