Hiking is also very popular in the area. There is a three-mile hiking trail that goes through the pine flat woods.

Moody Air Force Base is located in Lowndes County. The Base was opened on September 15, 1941, and was named for Major George Putman Moody. The Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University has a campus in the Moody Air Force Base. The Air Force Base is one of the largest employers in Lowndes County.
