Encompassing a total area of 1,046 square miles, Livingston County is the fourth-largest county in Illinois. Livingston County has a rich history and thriving school system. The county is known for its many museums, great for educational fun! Officially established on February 27, 1837, Livingston was made from portions of McLean, LaSalle, and Iroquois Counties. The county was named after the former mayor of New York City, Edward Livingston. Home partly to the Vermillion River, Livingston County has excellent aquatic activity opportunities. The Livingston County War Museum features many different artifacts, some dating back to World War I. Other museums in the county include the Pontiac-Oakland Automobile Museum and the Art Center.

The rich history of Livingston County can be seen through the many locations listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Fairbury City Hall was built in 1892 and still stands in Fairbury. Featuring a four-face clock tower, Fairbury City Hall was added to the National Register on February 16, 1996. Another interesting historical site in Livingston County is the Dwight Railroad Depot. Dwight Railroad Depot was built in 1891 and still serves as an Amtrak station. Other historic locations in the county include the Thomas A. Beach House, Pioneer Gothic Church, Livingston County Courthouse, and many more.
