About Lincoln County

Lincoln County, Oregon was established in 1893 by the Oregon Legislature, the county was named after Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States. In addition, the county seat was originally the town of Toledo which was incorporated in 1896. However, the county seat was eventually moved to Newport in 1954 even though Toledo is still the industrial hub of the county.

Today, the county’s economy depends on its tourism, government, forestry, and retail industries. However, the county’s biggest employment industries are accommodation, retail trade, and healthcare. Hence, the most common occupations in the county are office support, sales, and food preparation.

In addition to its existing economy, the Lincoln County Community and Economic Development Fund awards grants to qualifying businesses. Moreover, the purpose of the grant is to create and retain more jobs with the final decision being made by the Board of Commissioners.

When it comes to education, the county is served by the Lincoln County School District which has a total of 18 schools ranging from kindergarten to 12th grade.
