Lincoln County was the twenty-fourth county created in Georgia. The county was created on February 20, 1796, and was named after Revolutionary War hero, General Benjamin Lincoln. Lincoln County is made up of 210 square miles of land and 47 square miles of water. The county has several great parks, restaurants, and historic places. The current population is 7,622, including a veteran population 732. Lincoln County is a great location for those looking for a place with a hometown feel.
The Broad River Campground is a great place to spend the day outdoors. With excellent views of the Broad River, the Campground is the perfect place for a picnic or relaxing walk. There are several boat ramps at the Broad River Campground, perfect for those that love boating or sailing. Other excellent locations for camping and other outdoor activities include the Clay Hill Campground and the Hesters Ferry Campground.
Clarke’s Hill Lake is a popular tourist destination in Lincoln County. The lake is great for those that love boating, swimming, and other water sports. The large diversity of fish found in Clarke’s Hill Lake makes it a great location for fishing. The lake is one of the ten most visited U.S. Army Corps of Engineers built lakes in the United States. Lincoln County borders about 380 square miles of Clarke’s Hill Lake.
Graves Mountain is another popular tourist destination located in Lincoln County. The Mountain is one of the best places in the state to collect different kinds of rocks and minerals. Some of the minerals that can be found in Graves Mountain include rutile, lazulite, pyrophyllite, and many more.
There are several Nationally Registered Historic Places located in Lincoln County. The Lincolnton Presbyterian Church and Cemetery were built in 1823 and remain in the county seat of Lincolnton, Ga. Other Nationally Registered Historic Places in Lincoln County include the Lamar-Blanchard House, Lincoln County Courthouse, and Matthews House. History lovers should also visit the Elijah Clark State Park and Museum.
Lincoln County is one of the fastest-growing counties in Georgia. The logging industry is huge in Lincoln County. Many large corporations have moved to Lincoln County, including Hero Metal, Top Grill, and Charles Owen, Inc.
