The building itself features Renaissance Revival style architecture and contains a clock tower. The courthouse is two-stories and still serves the county. The Lawrence County Courthouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 7, 2010.
Lawrence County has been the home of many notable people throughout the years. Plenty of athletes have once lived in the county, including MLB pitcher for multiple teams, Jack Ryan. Other athletes from Lawrence County include Lyle Judy, who was the second baseman for the St. Louis Cardinals and Mordecai Brown, who is a Hall of Fame pitcher. Authors from the county include Lee Martin, who wrote The Bright Forever and Frances Crane, who wrote many mystery novels.
