Located in the Alaskan Panhandle, along the Gastineau Channel, the borough and city of Juneau are the capital of the state of Alaska. In 1970, Douglas and Juneau merged to create what is now the Juneau Borough. A population of 32,660 makes the city of Juneau the second largest in the entire state.
