Jackson County is located in Northern Georgia and was named for Revolutionary War Lieutenant Colonel, James Jackson. The Georgia General Assembly officially created the county in 1801. The first buildings, the courthouse, and the jailhouse were built in 1804. Jackson County has many attractions nearby. The county has quiet towns and friendly community. There are many National Historic Places located in Jackson County. The Governor L. G. Hardman House was built in the early 1920s by architect Leroy C. Hart. The house features late 19th Century Revivals architecture. Other Nationally Registered Historic Places include the Old Jackson County Courthouse, Shields-Etheridge Farm, and Seaborn M. Shankle House.
The Georgia Department of Veterans Service Office is located in nearby Athens, Ga. Disabled veterans living in Georgia may be eligible for property tax exemption. The median housing cost is $161,300, and the median household income is $53,179.
