Jackson County is one of the least populated counties in Colorado. The total population is currently 1,396, and the veteran population is 145. Jackson County is located within the Rocky Mountain basin known as North Park. The county was created in November 1861. Before becoming a county, Jackson was mainly used as a hunting ground for the Ute and Arapaho Indian tribes.

The main river in Jackson County is called the North Platte River. The North Platte River is a legend to fishermen across Colorado and Wyoming. North Platte is what’s known as a “gold metal wild trout river.”
Jackson County is surrounded by two mountain ranges, the Park Range and the Medicine Bow Mountains. The elevations of the mountains range from 7,800 feet to 12,953 feet.
Jackson County has a total surface area of 1628 square miles. Of this, 1,614 square miles are made up of land and 7.2 square miles are water. The median household income in Jackson County is $43,606, and the median housing cost is $123,500.
Disabled veterans are eligible for property tax exemption by the State of Colorado. For veterans that qualify, 50 percent of the first $200,000 in the actual value of their primary residence will be exempt.
