Following the release by RealtyTrac® of their Q1 2012 Metropolitan Foreclosure Market Report showing 54 percent of U.S. metros posting a quarterly increase in foreclosure activity in the first quarter, VA Home Loan Centers (VA-HLC), a San Diego-based organization that specializes in VA loans and helping veterans, active-duty military and their families with homeownership, has urged servicemembers to take advantage of VA-HLC’s Homeowners Action Services (HASsm).

Following the release by RealtyTrac® of their Q1 2012 Metropolitan Foreclosure Market Report showing 54 percent of U.S. metros posting a quarterly increase in foreclosure activity in the first quarter, and a possible increase in the second quarter, VA Home Loan Centers (VA-HLC), a San Diego-based organization that specializes in VA loans and helping veterans, active-duty military and their families with homeownership, has urged servicemembers to take advantage of VA-HLC’s Homeowners Action Services (Has℠).

“We launched Has℠ specifically to help veterans and active-duty military, who are facing difficulties affording their mortgages, avoid foreclosure,” said Philip Georgiades, chief loan steward of VA-HLC.

HAS℠ offers several refinance options for homeowners with owner-occupied VA home loans, including interest rate reduction and refinance programs for veterans, active-duty military and their families even if they do not currently have a VA loan.

Veterans who no longer live in the home they own can qualify for several non-foreclosure options. These include grants, subsidies or seller’s assistance programs.

The increase in foreclosures also potentially means more homes on the market selling at substantially reduced prices. “It’s the flip side of the same coin,” commented Georgiades. “With mortgage rates hitting an all-time low together with the increase in foreclosures it is a great time to buy a home.” Georgiades continued, “Add to that the benefits servicemembers receive with the VA loan program and potential homebuyers are in a very good position.”

“At VA-HLC our priority is our servicemembers – active-duty and retired. We want to help new buyers into a home and we want to help existing homeowners stay in their homes,” added Georgiades.
