Hart County is located on the upper east side of Georgia and was created on December 7, 1853. The county was named for Nancy Hart, who was a heroine of the American Revolutionary War. It has been suggested that the Steven Spielberg movie, The Color Purple, was set in Hart County. Thanks to Lake Hartwell and the many parks, Hart County is great for outdoor lovers. The current population of Hart County is 25,377, which includes a veteran population of 2,148.
Lake Hartwell is a popular destination in Hart County. The lake is one of the largest in the southeast and can be found partly in both Georgia and South Carolina. Lake Hartwell provides excellent fishing, swimming, and boating options. The area around the lake is a great location for camping and hiking. Lake Hartwell is the home to over 250 species of birds and 40 species of mammals.
Hart County holds several annual festivals that bring in many of its citizens. One of the most popular festivals is the Scarecrow Festival. The Scarecrow Festival is held annually in October and involves a small army of scarecrows invading the downtown area of Hartwell. Other annual festivals include the Hartwell Antique Boat Festival, Lake Hartwell Dam Run, and the Challenge of the Centuries Bicycle Race.
Hart County has a thriving educational system, which includes eight public schools. Hart County is in proximity to several colleges and universities, including Clemson University, Emmanuel College, and the University of Georgia Athens.

Downtown Hartwell features several shops with everything that you may need. Hart County is also in proximity to the large city, Atlanta, which gives you the option of high-end shopping.
