Ford County was named after the former Governor of Illinois, Thomas Ford. Located near the center of Illinois, Ford County encompasses a total area of 486 square miles. The county was officially created on February 17, 1859 by the Illinois General Assembly. Ford County possesses an interesting history and has several locations on the National Register of Historic Places. Many fun festivals and events are held in Ford County each year that brings out much of the community. For a small town feel with a very friendly community, come to Ford County. History buffs will love the many historic locations that can be found in Ford County. The Paxton Water Tower and Pump House was built in 1887 and still stands in Paxton. On November 13, 1984, the Paxton Water Tower and Pump was added to the National Register of Historic Places. The Dunnan-Hampton House is a historic home featuring Queen Anne Style architecture. The House was built in 1897. The Dunnan-Hampton House has been recently restored, and is said to look exactly like it did in 1897. Other locations on the National Register in Ford County include the Paxton First Schoolhouse, Paxton Carnegie Library, and Alfred Phillips House.

There will be fun games and exciting entertainment at the Ford County Fair. Events held at the Ford County Fair include a beauty pageant, talent show, rodeo, and much more.
