Created by the General Assembly of Georgia on February 25, 1856, Colquitt County was made from portions of Lowndes and Thomas counties. Colquitt County was named for U.S. Senator Walter T. Colquitt. The veteran population in Colquitt County is 2,367 with a total population of 46,102.

The Moose Moss Aquatics Center provides an excellent spot for swimmers, and those who love relaxing in a pool. The aquatics center was used as a training site for swimmers in the 1996 Olympics. Adams Lake, Beatles Lake, and Brewer Lake are just a few of the many lakes found in Colquitt County. If you are a fan of water sports, boating, or swimming, then Colquitt County is perfect.
Reed Bingham State Park is a 1,613 acre park that features hiking trails, campsites, and a 375-acre lake. The park is a great place to enjoy a day outdoors. Fishing, boating, and water sports are popular at the Reed Bingham State Park. Other great outdoor areas include the Doerun Pitcherplant Bog Natural Area and the Tom White Linear Park.
The Spence Air Base is located in Colquitt County. It was used in World War II and the Korean War. Three of the wartime hangers are still located at Spence Air Base. The base often holds large events, including the Automotive Swap Meet and the Sunbelt Ag Expo.
