About Clarke County
There are many one story homes in the county as well as empty lots to build your own home on.
The county is located between two rivers, so there are great fishing spots on both sides where you can catch bass, bream, white perch, and catfish. There is also hunting that consists of turkeys, deer, feral hogs, rabbits, squirrels, raccoons, and foxes. The land is heavily forested and there are many outdoor activities, including water sports. There is also the Clarke County Museum, the Kathryn Tucker Windham Museum, and the Upper State Wildlife Sanctuary.
The county is located in southwestern Alabama. Clarke is named after General John Clarke, governor of Georgia in the early 1800s. The county has three natural salt springs that were used during the Civil War by shipping the salt across the south.
