Clark County is known for Las Vegas, perhaps even the entirety of Nevada is known for Las Vegas, though, like the state, the county is much more than just gaming and entertainment. Formed in 1909 by the state legislature, Clark County was created when Lander County was reapportioned. The county has a significant place in this country’s public transit history. First-time visitors who arrive via the 8th largest airport in the country quickly realize that the Vegas strip is only one aspect of beautiful Clark County. The Henderson Area is growing rapidly, but still has the best prices for new homes listed throughout Clark County.

One of the most well-known structures to be found within the county is the Nellis Air Force Base, which is located just about seven miles northeast of Las Vegas. This magnificent base includes over 15,000 miles of airspace and is often referred to as a city within a city. Along with the constantly active training missions conduced on site, the base also offers public facilities designed for retired military personnel, and sports areas targeted to local youth. A complete listing of training events is usually published for community awareness, since these can occur 24 hours per day.
The Army National Guard also has a strong presence in Nevada, especially throughout the Clark County region. Much of the utilities and power provided to the almost 900,000 residents outside the city limits are supplied using alternative energy techniques developed by the Guard. No small feat, the renewable energy sources are cutting money spent on both social services and utility providers by a greater percentage each year. This has proven to be both energy and cost efficient for residents and the local government. As a result of these efforts, the military personnel throughout the region are strongly supported and respected.
