The county was named for Charles Carroll, one of the signers of the U.S. Declaration of Independence. Georgia’s first Gold Rush took place in Carroll County. The park is home to two large lakes. These lakes are an excellent location for swimming, fishing, or enjoying a day out on a boat. Thanks to the numerous campsites and lodges, John Tanner Park is a great place for camping. Other parks in Carroll County include the McIntosh Reserve and the Little Tallapoosa Park.
